Falls remain the leading cause of injury death among adults 65 and older in the United States. According to the CDC, approximately 41,000 older adults die from fall-related injuries each year — 112 per day. One in four adults over 65 falls annually, yet fewer than half report it to their doctor. Emergency departments see nearly 3 million older adult fall visits each year, and healthcare costs from fall injuries are projected to surpass $101 billion by 2030. The CDC's STEADI program provides tools for doctors and caregivers to screen for fall risk and implement evidence-based prevention strategies at home.

Falls among adults 65 and older caused over 38,000 deaths in 2021, making it the leading cause of injury death for that group. In 2021, emergency departments recorded nearly 3 million visits for older adult falls.
